Postdoctoral Researcher in Functional Plant Community Ecology

LABORATORY OF FUNCTIONAL PLANT ECOLOGY
(Head Jan Lepš), Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, České
Budějovice, Czech Republic is seeking a highly motivated, cooperative and productive
postdoctoral researcher to join our team studying mechanisms of species coexistence, plant-plant
relationships, functional diversity, species traits relationships and developing corresponding methods

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant will participate in ecological, statistical, and phylogenetic analyses of our
data sets from ongoing experiments and projects. In addition, s/he will be able to develop an
independent project, using our permanent field sites. S/he will also mentor advanced students and will
prepare a course for advanced students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS
Essential
- Ph.D. in ecology, botany or related field (not older than March 30, 2008)
- Proven ability to develop, implement and publish interesting research projects
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Proficiency in statistical and other analysis of data
Desirable
- Knowledge of phylogenetic methods, particularly those relevant to community ecology
- Experience with analysis of species traits in (plant) community ecology
- Ability to work in the field
SALARY The salary is 600,000 CZK (Czech Crowns, ca Euro 26,000) per annum. The appointment
is for 34 months.
