In the frame of the DFG project ‚Integrating Short- and Long-Term Bioerosion Processes (Greece)‘ we are seeking for a motivated

Research Associate (PhD Candidate)

Your Tasks:
•       Carrying out a microbioeroder colonisation experiment in the tidal and supra-tidal zone at Rhodes Island (Greece; three field sessions of several weeks)
•       Evaluation of the spectrum of microbioerosion traces with the aid of epoxy cast embedding and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
•       Assessment of bioerosion rates based on two previous bioerosion experiments via precision scaling and micro computed tomography (micro-CT)
•       Statistical integration of long- and short-term bioerosion rates
•       Interpretation of bioerosion traces with respect to bathymetrical and longitudinal gradients
•       Presentation of results at international meetings, and publication in international journals

Your Profile:
•       Bio- or geoscientist with MSc degree or equivalent
•       Interest in interdisciplinary research at the interface of bio- and geoscience
•       Motivation and ability to work accurate and well-organized
•       Talent in technical matters for handling SEM and micro-CT
•       Readiness for several weeks of fieldwork
•       Solid command of spoken and written English

Salary and benefits are according to public service positions in Germany TV-H E13 (50%) for a period of 3 years starting latest by the end of 2012. The candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the University Bremen. Place of work is Senckenberg am Meer in Wilhelmshaven (Germany).
