Graduate Assistantship in Coral Reef Fish Biology (USA)

The Environmental Endocrinology Lab (Brander Lab) at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington (UNCW) is looking for a graduate research assistant (Masters level) to conduct research on mechanisms of sex determination in clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris), starting in January 2015.  This interdisciplinary position would involve the development of skills in both aquaculture and molecular biology and would lead to a Masters degree in Marine Biology from UNCW.

UNCW's graduate program in Marine Biology is among the top-ranked in the country, and is designed (1) to prepare students for further graduate work leading to a Ph.D.; (2) to provide professional biologists with advanced research and educational opportunities; (3) to prepare students as managers of coastal and marine resources, trained to deal with contemporary problems in the environment; and (4) to provide students with a broad-based graduate program allowing for specialization in the diverse fields of inquiry represented by the faculty of the department.

The ideal candidate will have taken courses in both marine and molecular or cell biology as an undergraduate, have an interest in working with fish, and also have some experience working in a research laboratory as an undergraduate.

For additional information, please contact Dr. Susanne Brander by email (branders@uncw.edu) by November 1, 2014.  Applications to UNCW's Marine Biology Masters program for the spring semester are due November 30, 2014.
