The Medical Faculty Mannheim invites applications for the position of a

Bioinformatician (Postdoctoral Researcher) (f/m)

in the research alliance Scientific Computing For Improved Detection And Therapy of Sepsis (SCIDATOS) between UMM and the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) Heidelberg. The position is at the Department of Anesthesiology and Surgical Intensive Care Medicine (coordinator and clinic director: Prof. Dr. Thiel).
The SCIDATOS research alliance was formed to apply concepts of scientific computing for early and reliable diagnosis of sepsis in critically ill patients and to develop tools for clinical diagnosis. For this, epidemiological, biostatistical, and text mining methods will be applied to clinical documentation, and complementary data will be collected by targeted cellular and molecular analyses. Particular emphasis is on pro- and anti-inflammatory processes.

Your responsibilities
Representation of computational biology in the interdisciplinary SCIDATOS research alliance
work closely with bioanalytical, epidemiological, computational, and clinical teams in developing mathematical models of the bodies response to infection
global transcriptomics and pathway analysis of innate and adaptive immune cells in the critically ill
identify and implement bioinformatics solutions for sepsis biomarker identification
dissemination of results and preparation of grant applications

Your profile:
you hold a PhD and have a strong background and demonstrated experience in bioinformatics/computational biology
additional knowledge in physiology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry and/or immunology is desirable
Experience in handling large volumes of biological/medical data
Experience with analysis software used in bioinformatics, e.g., R, Bioconductor, etc.
Programming skills are desirable, e.g., Python, Perl, C++ etc.
very good English and basic German speaking and writing skills
team-oriented with very good communication and organizational skills
you are interested in working in close collaboration with experimental and other computational scientists and with clinicians
