Microbial Ecology – Amphibian Microbiome
Post-doctoral Position at Virginia Tech

Position Summary:

A one-year postdoctoral position is available studying the amphibian microbiome in the lab of Dr. Lisa Belden in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech. The incumbent will work on a range of collaborative projects examining structure-function relationships in the amphibian skin microbiome, and develop a related independent project. Candidates must have experience in molecular microbial ecology and/or bioinformatics, and be competent in the laboratory, as well as having the ability and interest to work with amphibians in both field and lab settings. Of particular interest are individuals with experience in transcriptomics/RNA-based methods, and/or with metagenomic data analysis. The incumbent will be expected to submit manuscripts based on the research to peer-reviewed journals, to present at scientific meetings and to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Position includes a competitive salary and fringe benefits.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. degree in biology, ecology, microbiology or a related field, with demonstrated experience in molecular microbial ecology or bioinformatics, demonstrated motivation and strong work habits, the ability to work independently as well as with a research group, and demonstrated ability to produce publications based on individual research. Prior work with amphibians, knowledge of disease ecology, and experience successfully mentoring undergraduate students in research are desired.
