We are looking for a candidate to apply for a FI-AGAUR 2017 PhD grant within the Biodiversity and Animal Conservation Lab (http://baclab.ctfc.cat/) at the Forestry Research Centre of Catalonia (Solsona, Spain).
Applicants must have a good academic record in Biology, Ecology or similar, as candidates to apply for a public scholarship in Catalonia, in order to carry out a PhD Thesis on the impacts of global change on biodiversity in agriculture ecosystems. The project will focus on 1) exploring how crop irrigation and farmland intensification is affecting pseudo-steppe land bird populations from demographic, ecological and behavioral perspectives and 2) how bird populations respond to agro environmental and species-specific conservation measures applied during last years, with the aim to evaluate its effectiveness and to improve its future impact on species.
The BAC Lab possesses a large data set about monitoring and experimental field data on birds, environmental changes and conservation measures in Lleida pseudo-steppes (NE Spain). The project could also integrate remote sensing and GPS tracking data for several bird species and analyse the demographic and ecological trajectories of the different taxa in relation to landscape heterogeneity and environmental changes.
Candidates:
- The holder of the grant will be expected to complete a PhD degree in a doctoral Program during her/his grant tenure.
- The PhD will be developed under the supervision on Drs. David Giralt and Francesc Sardà-Palomera and based in Solsona (Spain).
- Candidates should have the equivalent of a Master degree in Ecology (or relative) with high qualifications.
- Good English level.
- Experience in data management, statistical analysis, GIS and field activities will be valued.
