4 ofertas para divulgadores de ciencia en Newcastle, UK

The International Centre for Life is a pioneering science village in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is an independent and self-funding charitable trust, which does not receive public funding. Life’s mission is to ignite and nurture a curiosity in everyone for science, technology, engineering and maths and to encourage the next generation of STEM professionals. Life Science Centre, which opened in May 2000, is the only purpose-built Science Centre in the north, attracting over 250,000 visitors per year. Life’s varied and eclectic public engagement programme attracts a broad audience including families, adults, pre-schoolers and teenagers.

Life is embarking upon a transformative project, entitled Creative Explorations, which incorporates exhibitions, community programmes and a review of its own culture and practices. Supported by the Inspiring Science Fund (BEIS and Wellcome Trust), Life will develop new products and external relationships in order to be a better neighbour within the communities of Tyne and Wear. To deliver the project we need to increase our staff capacity with some specialist roles, the first of which are:

Community Liaison Manager - (Full time, fixed term to March 2021. Salary £28k - £32k, depending on experience)

The Community Liaison Manager will be a key outward – facing member of the project. You will act as a “Community Advocate” on the capital and programme elements of the project, ensuring that communities have a meaningful impact on their design and implementation. Acting as a broker, your prime responsibility will be to establish, build and maintain long-term relationships with identified stakeholders and other relevant groups and will help to give Life a greater presence in more locations, communities and conversations.

As an enthusiastic self-starter you will be assertive and a natural collaborator with experience in developing mutually beneficial partnerships. Ideally you will have a degree in a relevant discipline (social work, psychology, sociology) or have relevant professional qualification (or equivalent) with proven inter-personal and facilitation skills and significant knowledge and experience of working with marginalised groups.

Exhibit Developer (2 posts) – (Full time, fixed term to March 2021. Salary £25k - £28k, depending on experience)

The Exhibit Developer positions are an exciting opportunity to demonstrate your imaginative and creative skills by providing content development and exhibit development input to the Creative Exploration capital exhibition project. Working to the Head of Special Projects and with other team members, you will help to shape the intellectual content and visitor activities featured in the exhibitions.

The successful candidates will have a degree (or equivalent qualification) in science or evidence of equivalent professional level experience. A self-starter with a curious mind, you will ideally have experience of developing interpretive exhibitions or other resources for science engagement.

Visitor Researcher – (Full time, fixed term to March 2021. Salary £18k - £23k, depending on experience)

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, well organised individual to manage the process of front-end, formative and summative evaluation for each integral part of the Creative Explorations project as well as the overall programme. Working to the Head of Special Projects you will act as an “Audience Advocate” within the capital and revenue projects and participate in the national evaluation of the Inspiring Science Fund programme.

The successful candidate will have a degree (or equivalent qualification) in an appropriate field or a science degree plus relevant practical experience. Paying attention to detail, with the ability to use sound judgement, you will ideally have experience working with children or families in a learning environment and be familiar with both qualitative and quantitative learning research methods.

Please note the successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check. Details of our DBS policy are available on request.
