Description Duties and Accountabilities 
Istituto Oikos is seeking to recruit a Biodiversity Expert to be based at Lampi Marine National Park’s Visitor Centre in Makyone Galet, Myanmar. The Biodiversity Expert will join Oikos project to support Lampi Marine National Park (www.lampipark.org) implemented in collaboration with the Myanmar Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation - MONREC. The Biodiversity Expert will play an essential role in the definition of the park management strategy and in supporting the participation of local communities in conservation. The Biodiversity Expert will also provide technical expertise on a variety of environmental issues related to environmental monitoring, natural resources management and payment for ecosystem services. The Biodiversity Expert will be part of a dynamic team of biodiversity specialists (based in Italy). The expert will report to the Project Manager based in Yangon. The expert will manage one national environmental field officer, who will assist the expert in the implementation of all field activities and coordination with local stakeholders. Responsibilities 1) Park management  Support the process of revision of the current Park Management Plan and the development of the new Park Management Plan led by University of Insubria in collaboration with park staff/NWCD and local stakeholders.  Provide technical support and training to park staff on environmental monitoring activities and protocols (mainly related to avifauna, mammals, sea turtles, mangroves) in close consultation with international and local experts/institutions.  Provide support and guidance to park staff in the implementation of regular marine and terrestrial patrolling activities within the Park (applying SMART software).  Provide technical support and guidance to park staff in data collection, entry & analysis of Patrolling & Environmental Data.  Facilitate and maintain effective communication with the Government counterparts and local partners, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), civil society, the private sector as well as specialized international organizations. 2) Conservation/Education/Research  Promote and facilitate community involvement in conservation supporting the creation of a local wildlife conservation group.  Support the definition of small conservation initiatives inside the park in collaboration with local groups and park staff.  Organise training sessions, environmental awareness and education activities for local communities.  Support the Project Manager and scientific supervisors in the definition of possible research programs/priorities with local and/or international universities. 

Duration: 12 months (renewable) 
Qualifications
 •Advanced degree in Natural Resources Management, Marine biology or ecology, Conservation or related field. • A minimum of 3 years of full-time work in biodiversity conservation. • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: natural resources management, protected areas and/or habitat management (including community based conservation), wildlife conservation. • Experience working in developing countries, understanding of the institutional and political context and exposure to the local challenges. • Work experience in Myanmar would be an advantage. • Strong English verbal and written communication skills required. • Working knowledge of Italian is an asset. • A strong sense of team work and ability to work independently with limited supervision. • Ability to thrive in multicultural living and working environment with people of diverse cultures, value systems, perspectives and levels of education, and to manage staff in these contexts. • Willingness to live and work in a remote isolated area, with limited access to Internet.
