Doctorado en ecología de lagos urbanos (Alemania)

We invite applications for a 3 year PhD position in a project on "Interactions between invasive ecosystem engineers and bank filtration in urban lakes" as part of the DFG research trainihg group "Urban Water Interfaces" starting on 1.7.2018.

Research will focus on the combined effects of invasive macrophytes and mussels on water quality and ecosystem functions in urban lakes. Field and laboratory investigations as well as modelling will be carried out to test whether mutual facilitation between mussels and macrophytes supports the spread of invasive species in urban lakes, whether invasive ecosystem engineers can support urban lake ecosystem services and whether technical (bank filtration) and natural (mussel filtration) processes increase the availability of phosphorus in littoral sediments. There will be a close collaboration with other projects focusing on urban lakes (U2, U3, U4) and bank filtration (H1).

The successful candidate must have a university degree (Master or equivalent) in Biology, Geoecology, Environmental Sciences or Engineering, ideally with a focus on aquatic ecology or water quality, be strongly interested in aquatic fieldwork and modelling, and be enthusiastic about the prospect of working in a collaborative team with international participation.

Supervisors: Dr. Sabine Hilt (IGB), Prof. Ferdi Hellweger (TUB), Prof. Reinhard Hinkelmann (TUB) and Prof. Wolf M. Mooij (Netherlands Institute of Ecology, NIOO).
Host organization: Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries Berlin.
Please address enquiries to Dr. Sabine Hilt (hilt@igb-berlin.de).

Applicants should submit the following documents until 23.3.2018: letter of motivation indicating research interests and experience and the project key U1, CV including 2 references, letter of recommendation (preferably from a professor), Bachelor and Master certificates, Master Thesis. Please send your application in a single PDF containing all application documents using the online UWI application platform under: https://webserver.service.tu-berlin.de/candidate.php
