Postdoctoral fellow in limnology, ecology of coastal ecosystems (Sweden)

Postdoctoral fellow in limnology, ecology of coastal ecosystems at the Department of Ecology and Genetics, Evolutionary Biology Centre (EBC)
Uppsala University is an international research university focused on the development of science and education. Our most important assets are all the individuals who with their curiosity and their dedication makes Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting work places. Uppsala University has 41.000 students, 6,500 employees and a turnover of SEK 5,900 million.
Start date: October 1, 2014 or as agreed upon.

Tasks: Research on the dynamics of fish stocks in the sea has traditionally focused on stock-recruitment relationships. However, variation in local recruitment habitat characteristics can significantly influence population dynamics of adult size classes. This project has two parts: 1) to evaluate the importance of recruitment habitats in coastal ecosystems for fish recruitment to adult size classes. 2) to be a Mistra EviEM project manager for a systematic review (see www.eviem.se/en) on environmental management achievements in shallow coastal areas, The issue will be defined in cooperation with the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and decided after a finished pilot study. The position is placed at the Department of Ecology and Genetics/Limnology, Campus Gotland, Uppsala University. The position is funded to equal parts by Mistra Council for Evidence-Based Environmental Management and Uppsala University.
Period of appointment: Two years.
Eligibility: The successful candidate must have a PhD, or an exam, which is judged comparable to a PhD, that was completed within three years of the application deadline. Also those applicants that received their PhD earlier should be given priority if special circumstances exist. Special circumstances are prolonged periods of illness, parental leave, military service, union duties and others of similar character.
Ranking criteria: In ranking eligible candidates, special importance will be given to scientific skills in relation to the subject area specified. Special weight will be given to experience in environmental related research. Cooperation with Swedish authorities is included in the position and the candidate is expected to be able to search and read documents in Swedish. In filling this position the university aims to recruit the person who, in the combined evaluation of competence, skills and documented qualifications, is judged most suitable to carry out and develop the work-in-hand and to contribute to a positive development of the department.
How to apply: The application should be written in English and should include a short description of the applicant and his/her research interests. It should also include a CV, a publication list, copies of relevant examination certificates, a copy of the PhD Thesis, as well as other relevant documents (e.g. letters of recommendation or names of reference persons).
