ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Accounts Coordinator in Quebec, with the overall supervision of the Accounts Manager, the Outreach Assistant will help to grow and strengthen the Ocean Wise Seafood partnership program and impact of public-facing education and engagement activities focused the province of Quebec, from the Quebec City office or remotely.

This position is a Full-Time contract role (35h/week) for a 10-week duration, with a start date of 20 July 2020 and end date of 25 September 2020.

Ocean Wise Seafood is a conservation program that makes it easy for consumers and businesses to choose sustainable seafood for the long-term health of our oceans, lakes and rivers. The Ocean Wise symbol next to a seafood item is our assurance of an ocean-friendly seafood choice. With over 785 industry partners in over 3,100 locations across Canada and beyond, the Ocean Wise Seafood program provides the most recent scientific data to industry partners so they can make sustainable seafood purchases. http://seafood.ocean.org/

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Quebec partner surveys and research
Conduct and summarize results for a small-scale Ocean Wise Seafood partner feedback survey for Quebec partners to increase understanding and stimulate improvement of partner experiences
Conduct branding use audit of partners in Quebec by reviewing websites, menus, relevant social media posts and products, using the program Branding Requirements document as a guideline
Complete a research report for potential opportunities for new partners, with a focus on Quebec City
Research Quebec partners and potential influencer contacts on social media and update program metrics on partner followers and engagement, presenting opportunities and helping to further activate these relationships in meaningful ways on social media

Outreach and communication support
Creation of high impact social media content for @OceanWiseLife channels and content for French OWS website
Contribute to overall Ocean Wise Seafood communications strategy by producing a minimum of 2 Aquablogs in French and collaborating on the creation and translation of any other important ad-hoc communication pieces (i.e. resource toolkit for partners, core program documents, etc.)

Partner engagement
Participation in Ocean Wise Seafood partner virtual staff training events, where requested
Administrative support on invoicing, sales data collection and invoicing follow-ups, where needed
Supporting with select community partnerships that focus on education and engagement initiatives

Event research and coordination (virtual)
Research and identify top public-facing culinary/foodie, community and/or sustainability-minded events happening in Quebec City in the next calendar year
If time allows, coordinate one virtual partner outreach and recruitment event or campaign for local businesses in Quebec City, including reaching out to existing and potential partners, assisting with the logistics, communications and presentation for the event, and other tasks, as required

Other
Representing the Ocean Wise Seafood program team at virtual networking or public events
Attending weekly national, accounts team and bi-weekly Eastern Canada office meetings
Supporting or leading other program tasks or projects, where required



QUALIFICATIONS

This job is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Mandatory requirements are:
Between 15 – 30 years of age
Eligible to work in Canada

Education and Experience
Current post-secondary or graduate student, or recent graduate, preferably studying environmental science, marine biology, environmental education, conservation biology, ecology, sustainability, food service & hospitality, or a related field.
Experience presenting to small groups and comfortable engaging with the public
Strong communication skills in English and French, both verbal and written
Good customer service skills in person and over the phone
Solid understanding of current marine conservation issues, and in particular, overfishing
Computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office suite
Passion for ocean conservation and sustainable seafood
Demonstrated ability to remain self-motivated, especially when working remotely
Quick learner with a positive attitude
Excellent working knowledge of social media including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
Ability to research and analyze data effectively, and produce descriptive reports

Assets
Experience in fisheries, aquaculture, or within the seafood or hospitality industries
Experience using Salesforce

Working Conditions

Candidate must be flexible to work non-business hours (weekends, evenings, holidays). Regular work will be located remotely, with a slight chance to be located in a dedicated office space in the Aquarium de Quebec. Access to a home computer is required.
