The Institute of Organismic and Molecular Evolution at the Faculty of Biology, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany invites applications for the position of a Lab Manager full-time (100 %)

This position supports the research group with a focus on evolution, behavior and ecology of social insects in research and teaching.

Your tasks:
  • Further development, application and teaching of molecular biological, behavioral and chemical methods in the context of evolutionary biology research and teaching on ants and bees
  • Support of scientific projects, including taking over of subprojects and help with the preparation of scientific manuscripts and research proposals (e.g. preparation of research results, budget calculation)
  • Participation in international cooperation projects
  • Laboratory management (ordering of laboratory supplies, care and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring working hygiene in the laboratory)
  • Preparation of teaching practicals and field trips
  • Keeping and handling of social insects in the laboratory
Your profile:
  • Completed vocational training as a biological-technical assistant or equivalent skills and extensive experience in research
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Very good knowledge of molecular biological and chemical techniques
  • Good knowledge of the organization of a modern, methodically diverse laboratory of common MS-Office, statistical and citation programs scientific terminology and approaches

  • Interest in research and working with social insects
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work as part of an international team
  • Ability to work independently and organize work effectively
  • Development and transfer of new laboratory methods
  • Participation in seminars and meetings of the working group

The position is paid according to EG 9b TV-L and to be filled until 7/1/2022. The position is permanent.
