Main Description:
Mwambao Coastal Community Network is looking for an Ecological Data Manager to lead the collection, analysis, and management of biological data across key coastal ecosystems — including fisheries, coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves. The role involves close collaboration with field teams to ensure proper data collection protocols, quality control, and statistical analysis. The Data Manager will also supervise staff and contribute to building data capacity within coastal communities.
Requirements:
- BSc in Ecological or Biological Sciences (MSc or higher preferred)
- Experience in data collection, management, and analysis in marine or fisheries ecosystems
- Experience with nearshore marine ecosystem survey methods
- Fluent in both Kiswahili and English (oral and written)
- Strong swimming and snorkelling ability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Statistical analysis and data visualisation using open-source programming languages (R or Python)
- Strong scientific writing skills
- Ability to read and synthesise scientific literature
- Marine organism identification skills
- 2+ years of project management experience
- Supervisory, mentoring, and training experience
