Main Description:
This PhD project investigates biotic responses to pre-Columbian intensive land use practices in the Mompos Depression (Colombia). The research involves the analysis of paleoecological proxies (pollen, diatoms) from sedimentary archives to reconstruct long-term biotic dynamics and human-environment interactions in a tropical wetland system.
The successful candidate will work within the Paleoecology Laboratory at CSIC Geosciences Barcelona, integrating paleobotanical, archaeological, and environmental approaches to understand how ancient land management shaped biodiversity in the Neotropics.
Requirements:
- Master's degree completed before the start of the position
- English proficiency at B level or above
- Willingness to participate in extended fieldwork campaigns (up to one month) in remote tropical environments
- Comfort with laboratory work involving standard chemical procedures
- Background in botany, plant ecology, or statistical analysis is desirable
