We now wish to strengthen our research activities in the interface between evolution and genomics, and therefore announce a position as senior lecturer in molecular evolution, placed at the program of evolutionary biology.

Description of subject area of the employment:
Molecular evolutionary studies include research on the evolution of DNA and related molecules. The access to very large amount of data has made it possible to focus on general processes that affect the whole genome. Rapid technological developments have also allowed studies of not only DNA sequence evolution but also transcriptome evolution and evolution of chemical modifications of DNA and proteins, like methylation and acetylation. In parallel, theoretical progress has been made with development of mathematical models of evolution on the molecular level. Molecular evolution has strong connections to population genomics and genome evolution.

Duties:
  • Teaching, research and administration. Teaching duties include course responsibility and course administration and supervision of second- and third-cycle students.
  • Follow developments within the subject area and the development of society in general that is important for the work at the university.
  • The person appointed will be expected to perform research on molecular evolution in eukaryotic systems and be able to interact and give synergies with existing research within the program.
Qualifications Required:
  • PhD in molecular evolution, or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise. To complement existing research within the program as well as to meet teaching needs, we seek candidates with strong competence in both theoretical and empirical research on molecular evolution.

In assessing research expertise research quality must be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, must also be afforded consideration. In assessing research expertise special weight will be attached to merits in both theoretical and empirical research on molecular evolution. In assessing research expertise, special weight will also be given to merits that combine biology and mathematics. Furthermore, consideration must be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education in the third cycle, the ability to acquire funding for research in competition, as well as the demonstrated capacity to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.
  • Teaching Expertise comprises educational and teaching qualifications. This expertise can have been achieved outside the academy through supervision, internal training, mentoring programs, etc. In assessing teaching expertise teaching quality must be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, must also be afforded consideration.
