The Division of Preventive Oncology is seeking a

PhD Student

Description:
We are seeking a talented and motivated PhD Student to join our interdisciplinary team in the Division of Preventive Oncology (Prof. Dr. Ulrich). The Division is housed in the translational scientific setting of Germany’s National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) and part of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany. It is part of the German Consortium of Translational Cancer Research (DKTK).

The position involves work on several ongoing and new studies:
• ColoCare: a prospective, multi-centric cohort study to investigate colorectal cancer. The study involves methylation, gene expression and metabolomics data analysis
• GAME ON: Genetic Associations and Mechanisms in Oncology Consortia. It involves genome-wide association data analysis
• IMPACT: follow-up study for colorectal cancer. Analysis of genetic epidemiology data, cancer survival and prognosis
• CFR NSAIDs: multi-centric case-control study to investigate genetic variability related to the genes that produce the targets and metabolizers of NSAIDs which involves meta-analysis, and pharmacogenetic analysis

The position will include bioinformatical and statistical analysis and, if required, method development, active involvement in epidemiologic and clinical studies, leadership and contributions to multiple publications, and development of new research ideas. Strong collaborations with the University Clinic of Heidelberg and international collaborators provide excellent opportunities for translational research projects. Heidelberg is a beautiful, friendly, and international town in the heart of Germany.

Your profile:
• University degree in bioinformatics, statistics, computational biology, epidemiology or a related discipline
• Excellent writing and communication skills, as evidenced by publications
• Fluency in English
• Highly motivated, organized and curious
• Enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary team, including with international collaborators
