The Ecology and Evolutionary Biology unit in the Department of Biological and Environmental Science at the University of Jyväskylä has a long and strong tradition in experimental hypothesis testing. The unit is arguably one of the world.s leading groups in experimental evolutionary ecology, and the rigorous testing of evolutionary hypotheses in the unit has had an impact on evolutionary biology worldwide. As a result, evolutionary ecology has been an important strategic area of research at the University of Jyväskylä, as evidenced by two recent Centers of Excellence (Evolutionary Ecology, 2000-2005 and Evolutionary Research, 2006-2011) and two Academy Professor positions funded by the Academy of Finland.
