As the science and knowledge service of the Commission, the mission of DG Joint Research Centre is to support EU policies with independent evidence throughout the whole policy cycle. The JRC is located in 5 Member States (Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain). Further information is available at: https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/ The Directorate for Sustainable Resources is focused on the EU sustainable resources policies, encompassing environmental, economic and social dimensions. The Water and Marine Resources Unit provides scientific and technical support to water related policies. JRC provides scientific and technical support to the European Water Framework Directive (WFD) which aims is to protect the European surface waters and coastal zones by achieving the good chemical and ecological status. Recently concerns are for the water quality considering the risk of the complex chemical pollutants. JRC, in collaborations with Member States and Stakeholders, is contributing to investigate how to deal with complex mixture in water focusing on biological based methods. In this context the candidate will  contribute actively to the potential implementation of the biological based methods in the Water Framework Directive by reviewing and collecting literature data;  plan and executive laboratory activities on diatoms used at JRC as model organism for chemical exposure assay;  contribute to the European wide campaign for testing the chemical mixture on aquatic organism in support to the Water Framework Directive;  participate in meetings with policy customers and networks.
