Studying the cognitive-enhancing effects of nicotine
School of Neurology, Neurobiology & Psychiatry
(Half-time – 20 hrs per week)
£19,460 pro-rata

Based in the School of Neurology, Neurobiology & Psychiatry you will work in the laboratory of Dr Mohammed Shoaib, to study the cognitive-enhancing effects of nicotine and its interactions with dopamine and glutamate systems in the prefrontal cortex.You will undertake behavioural studies to examine specific nicotinic receptor compounds as cognitive enhancers in the attention model. You will have a good degree in the biological sciences to. Funding for both posts is provided by the BBSRC under the Integrative Analysis of Brain Function Initiative. The programme of work is part of a larger collaboration, with Professor Susan Wonnacott at Bath University, where complementary biochemical assays and immunocytochemistry will be performed, and with Dr James Kew at GlaxoSmithKline, Harlow. You will be required to liaise with the collaborating teams as part of this multidisciplinary project. Tenable for 3 years.
