Trained scientists with a PhD degree obtained in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry are invited to apply for a "Juan de la
Cierva"
postdoctoral position associated with the project "Analisis de la division
cellular: formacion del huso mitotico y de la envoltura nuclear" (MEC BFU2004-01096).
The focus of the project is to identify and characterize genes essential for mitotic spindle assembly and nuclear envelope formation using genome-scale
RNA
interference in the nematode C. elegans. When animal and plant cells divide their nuclei undergo dramatic changes. The nuclear envelope that encloses
the
cell’s chromatin disassembles to allow proper segregation of the chromosomes
to
the daughter cells by the mitotic spindle. Subsequently, the nuclear
envelope
reforms around the decondensing chromatin. Failures in any of these steps
can be
detrimental to cell viability.
The project will be supervised by myself as senior researcher under the
Ramón y
Cajal programme and is to be carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Cayetano Gonzalez at the Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB). The laboratory and the
PCB
harbour state of the art equipment and core facilities fundamental to the project.
>From www.mec.es: "Applicant researchers must be in possession of a PhD
>or be
in
a position to obtain it no later than 30/06/2005. A period of no more than
three
years can have elapsed between the award of the PhD and the closing date for applications." For further information about conditions please consult the
web
pages of the Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (MEC).
Working language in the lab is English. Spaniards and foreigners are equally invited to apply, however, a basic understanding of Spanish is required.
Due to the short application period – MEC deadline is April 4 – applications
in
English including CV, letter(-s) of reference and PhD certificate have to be presented to me no later than March 21.
For further information please contact me at paskjaer@pcb.ub.es.
