University of Chicago / New Zealand South Island
Volunteer research assistant(s) needed Jan 25th to March 7th and/or
between May 1st and August 30th (specific dates are negotiable) in the
investigation of omnivorous food web interactions in the New Zealand
marine intertidal. The assistant will participate in feeding and quadrat- based abundance surveys at field sites on both east and west coasts of the
South Island, and will aid in the monitoring of laboratory-based
experiments at the Edward Percival Field Station in Kaikoura. (For more
information see http://home.uchicago.edu/~mnovak/)
Applicants must be flexible and comfortable working under adverse field
conditions (i.e. in the wet and cold of both day and night-time low-tide
periods). Previous research experience preferred, but not required. Room
and board and travel within New Zealand will be provided. While it will
not be possible to provide international travel, motivated individuals
will be assisted in writing their own grant applications with which to
cover this expense. (The opportunity for small independent projects
exists.)
Please send a cover letter, resume, and contact info for two references to
Mark Novak via email mnovak@uchicago (preferred), or to 1101 E. 57th St.,
Dept. of Ecology and Evolution, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL 60637.
