The Department of Ecological Modelling (OESA) is inviting applications for a
PhD position for an ecological modeller (f/m)code digit 90/2011 to commence at the earliest possible date. Main task of the position will be the development of models for analysing aquatic food webs, their functioning and ecosystem services (esp. control of eutrophication) in running water systems. Special focus will be on their response to climate change, the influence of the food web structure, and in options to stabilize and to enhance the food web performance through appropriate management interventions. Central idea is the combination of the intended models with mesocosm
experiments based on ecological theory. The project will be in close cooperation with the UFZ-Department of River Ecology (FLOEK; Head Prof. Markus Weitere) located at the UFZ-Campus in Magdeburg. Requirements:
• University degree (Diploma, MSc, or equivalent) in applied systems sciences, biology, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline;
• Experience with ecological modelling (ideally population-, community- or food web- dynamic modelling); interest in running water systems and their functions;
