Volunteer raptor internship (Yellowstone National Park, US)
VOLUNTEER RAPTOR INTERNSHIP (1): The Yellowstone Raptor Initiative is seeking 1 highly motivated intern to assist with raptor migration surveys in Yellowstone National Park from September 3 – late October. Stipend: $20/day and housing. The Yellowstone Raptor Initiative is a 5-year research program designed to provide baseline information regarding breeding, abundance, and seasonal movements for select birds of prey; to contribute inventory and monitoring efforts to the global scientific community; and to enhance public education and awareness of raptors in Yellowstone National Park. Applicants should have excellent observation skills, attention to detail, good attitude and sense of humor, high motivation and interest in raptors. Observers are required to correctly identify migrating raptors for a minimum of 6 hours per day 5-6 days per week. Weather conditions are highly variable and can be extreme both seasonally and daily with snow occurring at any time of the year. Applicants should be comfortable working in grizzly bear, black bear, bison, and elk country. Prior experience with raptor migration counts sites a plus, but not necessary. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated outdoor experience and experience with conducting raptor migration surveys.
