Job Description: I seek a field assistant to for research project in Panama studying how habitat
characteristics influence social structure and reproductive dynamics lek-mating Red-capped Manakins (Ceratopipra mentalis). Fieldwork will include mist-netting and banding birds, re-sighting color- marked birds, telemetry on females, behavioral observations at male leks, fruit surveys, and various experiments. 50% of research will be conducted on Pipeline Rd in Soberania National Park, 50% will be conducted at various sites across the Isthmus of Panama. Provided housing will be in Gamboa, Panama. This work is in collaboration with the University of Wyoming and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

Qualifications: B.A./B.S. degree in biology, natural resources, wildlife biology or related field.
Experience with mist-netting, avian measurement, blood extraction, and telemetry is required. Ability
to drive a manual vehicle and 4WD is necessary. Preference will be given to candidates with
experience in the tropics. Practical fluency in Spanish and English is required, conversational fluency
in both preferred. Must be in good physical condition and be able to endure long field days in a
tropical setting. A successful candidate will possess strong motivation, a positive attitude, and the
ability to adapt to challenges with pluck and humor.

Compensation: Salary: A stipend of $500/month, housing, field vehicle, and air travel to and from
Panama are provided.
