Contrato predoctoral en bioquímica / biología molecular (Alemania)

A PhD Position (TV-L13, 50 %, 36 months plus an option for 11 months extension) is available in the research group of Prof. K. Niefind at the Institute of Biochemistry of the University of Cologne. A detailled description of the position is available at
www.stellenwerk-koeln.de/uploads/tx_exinitswkjobs/wissMA_Doktoranden_Niefind_Biochemie.pdf (for English version see page 3).
Applications are welcome from graduates of one of the following or related disciplines: biochemistry, biology, chemistry, physics.
Experience in molecular biology (gene cloning; construction of bacterial expression systems) and protein biochemistry (expression, purification and characterization of proteins) are an asset. We are looking for a candidate with enthusiasm for research in a multi-disciplinary environment between structural biology, biochemistry, and immunity.
The PhD position is part of a common research project funded by the “Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft” (DFG) (see
gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/283906930) and its French partner “L'Agence nationale de la recherche“ (ANR) in order to investigate molecular principles of the plant immune system. The project continues studies published by Wagner et al. (Cell Host Microbe 14:619-630, 2013) and Le Roux et al. (Cell 161:1074-1088, 2015).
In close collaboration with the research groups of Prof. Jane E. Parker (Max-Planck-Institute of Plant Breeding Research, Cologne) and Dr Laurent Deslandes (Laboratory of Plant-Microbe Interactions, CNRS-INRA, Toulouse, France), the biophysical and structure/function properties of plant immunity signaling proteins will be explored. For this, state-of-the-art methods in structural biology (protein crystallography, small angle X-ray scattering, cryo-electron microscopy) and biophysical chemistry (micro calorimetry, microscale thermophoresis, biolayer interferometry) will be applied.
Starting date: 1st Sept. 2016 or later
Please apply to: Prof. K. Niefind, Institute of Biochemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of Cologne, Otto-Fischer-Str. 12-14, D-50674 Cologne, E-mail: Karsten.Niefind@uni-koeln.de
