M.Sc. opportunity: Why do female bighorn sheep have horns? I am looking for a M.Sc. student to start in 2017. He or she will examine what determines variability in ewe horn size: trade-offs with reproduction, allometry with body mass and how it varies with age and weather/density effects, effects of inbreeding and genetic variability. Effects of hormones, test for compensatory growth, impacts on dominance rank. This program will involve two seasons of fieldwork at Ram Mountain and analysis of a 45-year data set on repeated measurements of several hundred ewes.
