Evolution and Ecology of Cancer Postdoctoral Research Scholar

Job Description:
Arizona State University’s Arizona Cancer Evolution Center and Biodesign Center for Biocomputing, Security and Society invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the area of cancer ecology and evolution with a special focus on statistical ecology and/or phylogeography. The postdoctoral associate will be taking a leadership role in the development of ecological and evolutionary methods to analyze pre-cancers and cancers. We have recently won a National Cancer Institute grant to generate a pre-cancer atlas for breast cancer. We are part of a national network to develop tumor atlases for both pre-cancers and cancers that will give us access to rich multimodal data on cancer cells and their microenvironments. We will be translating tools from ecology and evolution, as well as developing novel methods for studying cancer cell ecology and evolution. Ideal candidates would have expertise in developing and applying statistical methods for integrating multimodal data in landscapes and ecosystems and/or have expertise in developing phylogenetic and phylogeographic methods. No background in cancer is required.
Essential Duties:
  • Methods development and implementation, data analyses, report/manuscript preparation, and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Assist writing research proposals and seeking future funding.
  • Establishing and sustaining interactions among faculty, post-docs, and students across the human tumor atlas network
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. (within the past four years) in ecology, evolution, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or allied discipline
Desired Qualifications:
  • Expertise in modern ecological and evolutionary methods, landscape ecology, satellite image analysis, etc.
  • Interest in cancer (expertise is not required)
