The opportunity: The Marine Futures Internship Programme offers a unique opportunity to candidates who are passionate and enthusiastic about the marine environment. The Marine Futures Interns will gain skills, knowledge and experience across a variety of sectors in this exciting field to help direct and shape their future career ambitions.

This internship programme is funded by The Crown Estate and project managed by the North West Wildlife Trusts. The programme is run in partnership with The Crown Estate, the North West Wildlife Trusts, Ørsted and Natural England. Each partner organisation provides opportunities for the intern to develop skills in specialist areas including, marine conservation, climate change, renewable energy, seabed leasing and marine planning.

The successful intern will follow a varied programme that will allow them to gain a range of essential skills including: team work, creativity, leadership, listening, speaking, aiming high, problem solving, and staying positive. These skills will be developed through a variety of work-based experience and training – from undertaking research projects and communicating research outcomes, to learning about renewable energy development and environmental issues, and from undertaking scientific surveys and using GIS, to understanding environmental casework and delivering marine awareness activities. The successful interns will work remotely with a variety of teams across different sectors and develop key contacts and networks that will help with their career development.

All past interns from the Marine Futures Internship Programme have successfully secured employment in the marine sector! For more information on our past interns see: https://www.livingseasnw.org.uk/what-we-do/marine-conservation-projects/marine-futures-internship

What we are looking for: Interns who can build on their existing skills and knowledge to make the most of this unique experience. Applicants should have a good understanding of current marine issues and some experience of working or volunteering within the marine sector. Most importantly, we are looking for candidates who are passionate and enthusiastic about a career in the marine sector and have a willingness to learn. Due to hybrid working restrictions (i.e. home-based and office working), we are looking for someone who is organised, self-motivated, and able to work well within remote teams. A full driving licence and access to a car with business use insurance is desirable due to the nature of travelling around Cumbria.

Closing date for applications: Midnight Wednesday 6 April 2022. Please do not include a CV. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Interviews: Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 April 2022 - reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed by The Crown Estate. If you feel that you would require overnight accommodation in order to be able to attend an interview, please contact us after being invited to interview to discuss prior to booking.

Applications: Completed application forms should be returned via email to: MarineFuturesNW@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk

Only short listed candidates will be contacted. If you have not heard anything within 14 days of the closing date, please assume your application has not been successful.

Any further enquiries should be directed to Georgia de Jong Cleyndert in the Marine Futures Project Team via email: MarineFuturesNW@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk
