Oferta compartida por Nuria

The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies is the largest archaeological environment in Sweden. It consists of seven sections: Archaeology, Stockholm Numismatic Institute, Archaeological Research Laboratory, Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, Centre for the Study of Cultural Evolution and Centre of Pelaeogenetics. Both the research and the education at the Department comprise different areas and time periods.

We are seeking a laboratory assistant to support the research groups at CPG. The work will support a broad variety of research projects, including palaeogenetic analyses of how arriving humans interacted with local faunas, pathogens in ancient humans, and analyses of extremely old DNA from both sediments and animal remains The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies will be the employing department.

Closing date: 31/03/2023

Main responsibilities
The laboratory assistant will extract DNA from ancient bones, teeth, and sediments and prepare libraries that can be sequenced using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology. There may also be some administrative tasks, as well as basic management of the resulting sequence data. It is also expected that the successful applicant will participate in the daily activities at the Centre of Palaeogenetics and interact with other projects.

Qualification requirements
A master’s degree in a relevant area e.g. archaeometry, zoology, ecology, geology, or population genetics, and documented experience of molecular genetic laboratory work in the relevant area is mandatory.

Experience in working with ancient and/or degraded DNA and the generation of NGS data is a merit. Having experience with extracting DNA from more than one type of prehistoric tissue (human bone / teeth, faunal bone / teeth, sediments, etc) are desired merits. Experience in basic management of sequence data in a Linux environment is also considered advantageous.
