Project Primate, Inc:Project Primate, Inc. (PPI) works to raise awareness about the rapid decline of primate populations to promote, inspire, and support international conservation efforts.
PPI has been a major supporter of the Chimpanzee Conservation Center (CCC), based in the Upper Niger National Park in the Republic of Guinea, since 1999 as well as Akatia, a chimpanzee conservation and rehabilitation project in the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, since 2017. The primary activities of these partners include: chimpanzee rescue; rehabilitation and release; increasing public awareness; and community development.
PPI supports the CCC via the local NGO, Projet Primates Guinee (PPGui), and Akatia through Akatia Activities, a local Ivorian NGO. As a U.S. fiscal sponsor, PPI provides access to fundraising; logistic and financial support; social media communication with an international audience; recruitment of experts and volunteers; U.S. donors relations; and research partnership opportunities.
Since 2018, the CCC is placing cameratraps every year in the National Park of Haut Niger, Guinea.

We’re seeking an experienced Cameratrap Data Analyst Researcher. to carry out the capture-recapture analysis to generate population abundance estimates and population demographic characteristics for the HNNP and explore factors influencing chimpanzee distribution within the park. The chimpanzee identifications and the data organization has already been complete.

Key Responsibilities:
Analyze and interpret camera trap data, focusing primarily on chimpanzee identification. The researcher will carry out the capture-recapture analysis to generate population abundance estimates and population demographic characteristics for the HNNP and explore factors influencing chimpanzee distribution within the park. The chimpanzee identifications and the data organization has already been complete.
Determine chimpanzee group affiliations, range, and hotspot for subsequent fecal gathering for disease testing.
Contribute to the production of scientific papers, and other relevant deliverables based on the data analysis.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation, or related field. Ph.D. preferred but not required.
Proven experience in camera trap data analysis, particularly focusing on chimpanzees.
Strong familiarity with capture-recapture methodologies and its applications.
Proficiency in using statistical software/packages such as R, Python, or equivalent.
Ability to communicate complex data in clear, concise terms to various stakeholders.
