Position Summary:
American Bird Conservancy (ABC) is seeking a Graphic Designer who’s energized by making visual products that inspire, from magazine layouts to infographics and much more. Help us bring attention to one of nature’s most threatened animal groups – wild birds – and how ABC is conserving them and their habitats across the Americas. We're seeking a bold creator with proven experience elevating brands in an omnichannel environment.
Well-qualified candidates will thrive in a fast-paced, high-productivity environment; enjoy working collaboratively with staff and external contacts; possess experience with and interest in creating cohesive branded products for both print and digital media; and have a passion for nature, conservation, and birds. This position requires excellent graphic design and production skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects to deadline. Specific skill requirements include photo optimization, vector graphics creation, magazine production, and the use of style guides. The position reports to the Director of Communications within the ABC Communications & Marketing team.
Primary Duties:
Enhance ABC’s brand and visual identity through creative, thoughtful design across a suite of communications and marketing channels, including print, digital, and video.
Design the print ABC member magazine (3 issues/year) and annual Impact Report.
Seek out top-quality print vendors for major publications, specify paper requirements, oversee production, and review proofs to ensure quality of printed materials.
Provide creative digital assets for channels including web, email, social media, digital advertising, and SMS, as well as multi-purpose elements including infographics and animated GIFs.
Create print materials such as factsheets, rack cards, fliers, mail pieces, and other marketing collateral.
Maintain and grow ABC’s photo library, including collecting and archiving photo metadata along with photo editing as necessary.
Maintain and grow ABC’s network of photographers, including managing and archiving photography rights and permissions along with photography credits.
Contribute to the further development of and adherence to ABC’s brand and visual identity standards, organization-wide content strategy, and style guides.
Manage freelance consultants, when applicable, in coordination with the Director of Communications.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
1. Degree or certificate in graphic design or related field.
2. Minimum of 4+ year’s job-related design experience within a communications and marketing department or advertising agency.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of design principles (i.e.: hierarchy, grid, typography, photo / image retouching, user interface, user experience).
4. Proficiency in creative and design software: Canva and Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
5. Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, WordPress, Google Docs, Trello, Slack and other communications-related software.
6. Familiarity with specifying paper for print products; track record of working. successfully with print vendors to produce top-quality materials.
7. Experience creating scalable assets in an omnichannel environment.
8. Magazine design experience strongly preferred.
9. Spanish language fluency is a plus.
10. Interest in and/or experience with actively seeking out new voices and perspectives.
11. Knowledge of birds is a plus.
12. Authorization to work in the U.S.
13. Background screening required.
