2 positions - Wildlife Ecologist/Ecologis (m/w/d) for the project
ANALYSIS OF INTERSPECIFIC INTERACTIONS OF VERTEBRATE SPECIES ACROSS EUROPEAN ECOSYSTEMS BASED ON CAMERA TRAP DATA
The rapid technical development of wildlife cameras, so-called camera traps, has led to the availability of powerful and cost-effective devices for wildlife research, which have been used in numerous projects worldwide. Significant advances in the area of database systems and data preparation have also occurred recently. However, there is still a need to make these tools available for managers and develop analysis tools that can cope with heterogeneous data sets. To advance these developments and achieve harmonisation of methods, the project „Big Picture“ has been funded by the European Union's Biodivesa scheme. The 14 partner organisations involved in the project aim to develop data management and analysis tools for integrating and further developing professional and citizen science camera trap initiatives across Europe.
The position is part of the subproject that aims to develop and apply methods for analysing interactions between vertebrate species to model spatial and temporal scales simultaneously and continuously. The analysis will focus on predator-prey relationships, the influence of predators on mesocarnivores and invasive species, and the interaction of scavengers.
The sought-after employee is responsible for planning, carrying out and coordinating the field surveys, analysing the data, publishing the results in international journals and presenting them at conferences. The area of responsibility also includes the supervision of bachelor and master students.
