Restoration Spatial Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY - This position could be based in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Madagascar, South Africa, United Kingdom (remote), or Belgium. Remote possible.
As a core component of its Climate Strategy, Conservation International has set ambitious targets for scaling restoration globally as a climate solution. The Restoration Spatial Analyst works with teams across Conservation International and external partners to oversee and support the development and implementation of spatial data reporting mechanisms for an innovative multi-country Ecosystem Restoration program. This work supports a rapidly growing stream of restoration projects across different restoration strategies and provides the resources for CI to adaptively manage its rapidly scaling global restoration portfolios. This work will position CI as a thought leader and partner of choice in nuanced, data-driven, tailored, cost-effective restoration and contribute key knowledge to the global ecosystem restoration community derived from CI’s restoration portfolio. This position will be a key part of the Global Coordination Project of the GEF 8 Ecosystem Restoration Integrated program, an innovation initiative to support and scale ecosystem restoration in 20 countries for the next 6 years.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to the Restoration Partnerships Director and works closely with the Global Restoration Lead and other staff composing the Global Coordination Project overseeing the Ecosystem restoration IP, as well as other teams using spatial data at CI, to ensure alignment and coordinated efforts.
Program Management
- Lead the reporting of the spatial component of the project, presenting intermediate & summary results to internal and external audiences.
- Support the development of the spatial data component of the Ecosystem restoration IP platform, reviewing the design and specs, managing and updating the spatial data component of the platform, guaranteeing a consistent geospatial database.
- Attend workshops and other relevant meetings to represent the project and present results.
- Provide maps and monitoring metrics for technical reports about the program.
- Coordinate the spatial monitoring working group for the program with focal points from countries.
- Maintain all program guidance & methodology updated, organized, and accessible to support program’s knowledge management and learning.
- Create maps about the country projects to illustrate communication materials about the program.
- Provide support to partners and Communities of Practice on spatial data tools and analysis as needed.
- Manage sub-contract mapping work as necessary.
M&E
- Support the development of monitoring framework for the Ecosystem Restoration Integrated Program (ERIP) through the Global Coordination Project (GCP). This will include agreeing on unified robust methodology and rolling out protocols.
- Compilation, consolidation, curation and analysis of spatial data from all 20 country projects.
- Manage the GCP spatial database, guaranteeing robustness of data and methodology.
Capacity building
- Provide technical assistance to country projects on spatial data monitoring.
- Provide capacity building and training to country projects on the chosen methodology and tool for spatial data monitoring.
- Develop and provide guidance materials to countries on spatial data collection, prioritization, and monitoring protocols.
- Experience in conducting ROAM methodology, and other landscape-level assessment and prioritization exercises.
- Develop tutorials and training materials as needed to support country projects.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequent travel (30%) to project sites and to international meetings.
- Ability to work flexible and extended work hours to meet project deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or up to four years of college-level work, with a degree in geography, geospatial data science, cartography, or similar.
- 4 to 6 years of experience in the field of GIS and remote sensing, with geospatial prioritization, analysis, and reporting across multiple countries, languages, time zones, and high levels of proficiency with software.
- Expert-level user of GIS software. Proficient with software systems such as ArcGIS and QGIS, terminology, and procedures. Skilled in learning and adapting new software and programming applications.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in developing and delivering user training and end-user support.
- Team player and ability to effectively partner and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred
- Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese and/or French.
- Experience working in complex programs with multiple partners.
