Internship at the University of Zurich: Mycorrhizas for Sustainable Agriculture
Job Summary:
The University of Zurich is looking for students or graduates interested in agroecology and plant-microbiome interactions for a one-year research project. This work will contribute to an innovative project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, focused on implementing arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) as a tool to improve agricultural sustainability.
Job Details
Responsibilities:
- Conduct field and greenhouse experiments to evaluate conditions and plant species that maximize the benefits of AMF inoculation.
- Use molecular tools (qPCR) and microscopy to analyze AMF root colonization and establishment in the field.
- Contribute to data analysis and scientific reporting.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in agronomy, ecology, microbiology, microbiome research, or botany.
Experience and Skills:
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Greenhouse or field experiments with plants.
- Microbial ecology or mycology.
- Molecular and microbiological methods.
- Proactive, results-oriented, and a team player.
- Willingness to work in the field (intense harvest days).
- Fluency in English (working language). Swiss German is an advantage but not required.
Conditions of Employment:
- Duration: 1 year, with the possibility to continue with a PhD.
- Start Date: Ideally February 1, 2025 (flexible upon agreement).
