Associate Professor in Evolutionary Genomics of Vertebrates (permanent position with PhD start-up opportunity at NTNU University Museum, Norway)


(Associate Professor in Evolutionary Genomics of Vertebrates)

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains an active, international research profile.

  • Develops and submits competitive project applications to the European Research Council, the Research Council of Norway, and similar sources of national and international funding.

  • Will have the scientific governance for our vertebrate natural history collections.

  • Contributes to teaching at the NTNU Department of Biology, the Research School in Biosystematics (ForBio), or the Nordic Academy of Biodiversity and Systematic Studies (NABiS).

  • Participates in public outreach activities.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. within the field of evolutionary genomics or a closely related academic discipline.

  • Peer-reviewed publications in vertebrate evolutionary genomics.

  • Relevance of research focus in relation to the NTNU University Museum research strategy.

  • Excellent skills in written and spoken English.

  • Experience and success with any type of project acquisition and management.

  • Document relevant museum-related dissemination skills, or complete an approved course within two years of commencement.

  • New employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language by appointment are required, within three years, to demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with the curation of natural history collections.

  • Experience with collaborative research using interdisciplinary approaches.

  • Experience with teaching and supervision.

  • Experience in applying genomic approaches to scientific collections and/or ancient biological remains.

  • Experience in developing new mathematical and/or computational methods.

  • Experience in the integration of vertebrate host and microbiome datasets.

  • Experience with pangenomics and metagenomics.

Location: NTNU University Museum, Trondheim, Norway.
