Tenure-Track Professorship in Freshwater Animal Ecology

Contract Type: Tenure-Track position (initial 6-year contract as Assistant Professor, becoming permanent as Associate Professor after positive evaluation, with possibility of promotion to Full Professor)
Main Description: The University of Vienna seeks to fill a Tenure Track position in the field of Freshwater Animal Ecology. Freshwater ecosystems are hot spots of biodiversity with invaluable quality for human welfare, but are exposed to dramatic dynamics and pressures such as weather extremes, pollution, and invasion of exotic species. The successful candidate should have an excellent track record and expertise in freshwater invertebrate ecology, be familiar with classic morphological as well as modern molecular tools in taxonomy, and show strong commitment to teaching at all levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD). The position is embedded in the Department of Functional & Evolutionary Ecology, contributing to research and teaching in aquatic ecology with emphasis on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, targeting effects of global and climate change.
Requirements:
- Doctoral degree/PhD
- Two years of international research experience during or after doctoral studies
- Outstanding research achievements, excellent publication and funding record, international reputation
- Gender and diversity competence
- Experience in designing and participating in research projects, ability to lead research groups and acquire third-party funding
- Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral level
- Proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor's programmes and university committees (to be acquired within three years)
