 Conservation Grants Associate (Latin America - Chocó Focus)

Location: Remote (USA) or in region (Ecuador, Colombia, Peru)

Organization: Rainforest Trust

Contract Type: Full-time, salaried, exempt

Main Description: Since 1988, Rainforest Trust has been safeguarding imperiled tropical habitats and saving endangered species by supporting rights-based conservation measures such as affirming and securing rights to Indigenous or Traditional Territories, recognizing Conserved Areas (OECMs), and establishing traditional Protected Areas, including those with co-management of Indigenous or local communities. Working in partnership with local organizations and communities, we have protected more than 56 million acres of vital habitat across Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review project applications and support the Chocó Initiative Director to assess project viability and ensure alignment with the Landscape Conservation Strategy
  • Communicate with grant recipients and project implementors to handle the administration of smoothly running agreements and identify problems for other staff to handle
  • Distill and deliver relevant information from partners to Philanthropy and the Board of Directors to support internal planning and donor stewardship
  • Proactively identify and lift up problems for other staff to handle so that the team can prioritize their time effectively
  • Support the coordination and adaptive project management of grant agreements, and contribute to identifying and developing new project proposals aligned with regional conservation priorities

Requirements:

  • Strategic and Project Planning: Ability to assess and discern project viability in alignment with strategic conservation goals
  • Strong experience with protected area and landscape-level planning
  • Previous experience contributing to project development and proposal writing in coordination with conservation teams
  • Experience managing grants and complex projects, ideally in a conservation or nonprofit context
  • Regional and Cultural Awareness: Familiarity working in the Latin America region (previous experience and understanding of the context of Chocó is a strong plus)
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Excellent time and project management abilities
  • Technical agility and quick adaptation to new technology
  • Demonstrated commitment to Rainforest Trust's mission and core values

Benefits/Conditions:

  • Salary: $60,000-$65,000 commensurate with skills & experience
  • Note: The salary range for international hires will be determined by the regional market in the candidate's country of residence
  • Remote first organization - work primarily from home with excellent internet connection
  • Part-time office space may be available in Washington DC
  • Occasional national and/or international travel may be required
