Science Communications Intern (Summer 2026)

Contract Type: Full-time, unpaid seasonal internship
Main Description: Learn about nonprofit and science communications strategies through hands-on experience as part of the Alaska SeaLife Center's Advancement team.
Under the guidance of the Media & Communications Manager, this position offers a rare opportunity to help share the stories of ASLC scientists working directly with marine wildlife in Alaska, and will assist in translating research, fieldwork, and conservation into meaningful narratives that connect people to the work being done by ASLC's research teams. The intern will use photography, videography, writing, editing, graphic design, archiving, social media content creation, and more to help share science stories, while building practical experience in overarching nonprofit communications strategies.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be college graduates or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a background or coursework in a related field
- Candidates must submit a portfolio of their work (video, photography, social media content, writing sample, graphic designs or a combination of all) with their application and resume for full consideration
- Ability to speak effectively and to be comfortable meeting new people when interfacing with guests
- Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs (such as Lightroom and Photoshop) and video editing software is highly preferred
- Ability to see and hear; use arms and hands; handle objects, tools, and controls; and sit
- Ability to lift and move 20 pounds
