Project Assistant in Population Biology and Evolution
Location: Lund, Skåne County, Sweden (Stensoffa Ecological Field Station)
Organization: Lund University, Faculty of Science – Population biology, micro- and macroevolution research group, led by Professor Erik Svensson
Contract Type: Fixed-term seasonal employment, May 1 – September 15, 2026. 70% full-time, part-time position. Up to three positions available with flexible start and end dates within the specified period.
Main Description: Participate in and lead data collection within a long-term population study of damselflies ongoing since 2000. Work includes field experiments at Stensoffa Ecological Field Station, regular visits and re-visits to localities to estimate individual densities and marking of individuals in a mark-recapture study. During summer months, estimate population densities and colour morph frequencies in a standardized way. Laboratory work involves classifying captured individuals to phenotypic categories, collecting morphometric data registered in a database, and collecting specimens for later DNA-sequencing and molecular work. Additional responsibilities include administrative tasks, logistics coordination, and supervision of Swedish and foreign students.
Requirements: University education in ecology, evolution or conservation biology. Field work experience with insects required. Good knowledge of written and spoken English. Basic knowledge about insects, identification and capture techniques. Ability to work independently and in a group. Valid Swedish driver's license (car transport to field localities required).
Other Merits: Master's degree in biology. Broad experience of biological work with emphasis on field experience with insects. Good communicative and cooperative skills. Strong leadership skills and ability to supervise students. Administrative experience. Computer experience and excellent digital skills. Personal qualities valued: ambition, drive and independence.
