Urgente: Beca para trabajar con tortugas marinas en las Islas Cayman
Are you an experienced sea turtle field biologist? 🐢The Cayman Islands Department of Environment is looking for research assistants to assist with monitoring and protection of green, loggerhead, and hawksbill turtles in Grand Cayman and/or Little Cayman.
This work forms part of an active conservation response to threats such as artificial lighting, involving monitoring, nest protection, and intervention throughout the season to reduce hatchling misorientation. Nesting season begins in May, with peak nesting July-August. A Minimum of 3 months participation is recommended to allow participants to learn from the programme’s research context, operations, and monitoring approaches while contributing to conservation aims.
Full requirements:
🔵 Degree in marine science, ecology, conservation biology, or related field
Substantial sea turtle nesting beach monitoring experience, including independently locating egg chambers, conducting nest excavations, and tagging nesting females (experience at green turtle nesting sites preferred)
🔵 Mature, reliable, and supportive team member, able to work closely with others over extended periods and share field experience with students and volunteers during monitoring activities
🔵 Capable of physically demanding fieldwork, including long-distance walking, digging in deep sand, shovelling, and raking, for extended periods in very high temperatures
🔵 Experienced, confident driver strongly preferred.
A stipend is provided to help cover essential expenses. Travel support may be available where needed.
To express interest, send your CV and a brief cover letter outlining relevant field experience to doeturtlemonitoring@gmail.com by Friday 27th March 2026.
