GREATER SAGE-GROUSE OPPORTUNITY FOR 1 PHD AND 2 M.S. STUDENTS

I am recruiting for 1 PhD and 2 M.S. students to take part in a research project to investigate survival, habitat use, brood break-up/dispersal, and seasonal movements/landscape use patterns of Greater sage-grouse in southwestern North Dakota and northwestern South Dakota. I am searching for individuals that have familiarity with radio-telemetry, ranching and rangeland ecology, habitat sampling, upland game bird ecology, and GIS technology. Housing provided while in the field. Graduate research assistantship stipends are $18,460 (PhD) or $14,200 (MS) per year with waiver of tuition to 1/3 of in-state rates. Qualifications: B.S. in wildlife ecology/management or related field (MS program) or a M.S. in wildlife ecology/management (PhD program) before 1 January 2005 . I am seeking students with excellent academic backgrounds (GPA > 3.0) and competitive GRE scores. Candidates must have a strong work ethic and be able to physically endure the demands of fieldwork in weather extremes from very hot to extreme cold. I am searching for individuals that have a pleasant demeanor, are self-motivated, and that have the ability to work independently and as part of a research and academic team. Students with substantial field experience are strongly preferred.
