Volunteers in eco turism and nature conservation (Cape Verde)

The Turtle Foundation (TF) has been working in Cape Verde, West Africa since 2008 protecting Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) from the threat of poaching. The Cape Verde nesting population is the third largest population for Loggerhead turtles in the world after the nesting populations of Oman and Southeast Florida.
Turtle Foundation is offering the opportunity for students, recent graduates and anyone looking to help protect nature, to participate in our projects as interns or volunteers. As a volunteer you can come from as little as 2 weeks or as long as you wish. If you wish to stay longer than 8 weeks we suggest to take up on of the exciting internships we have in the following areas:
Night patrols (To become a patrol leader)
Morning patrols (census)

The internships are designed to give you valuable experiences in conservation techniques and leadership skills. Weather you choice to be a Tourism, Morning or Night patrol intern, you will gain valuable personal and professional experience, while having a summer you will never forget.

Check out our volunteer video to get a taste of what life is like with the Turtle Foundations project on Boavista.

Since we are a registered non profit organization, we rely on volunteer and intern fees to maintain our program.

Volunteer fees are €16 per day for the first four weeks and will be reduced to €14 per day for the following weeks of a longer stay than four weeks.
Intern fees are €10 per day during the first eight weeks. Interns wishing to stay more than eight weeks will have their fees reduced to €8 per day after the first eight weeks.

The program fee covers the costs of:
Food and drinks/ drinking water (3 meals a day).
Airport pick up, transportation from Boavista International Airport to the camp site.
Shared accommodation in group tents (If you wish to have more privacy, you may bring you own tent).
Training in conservation tasks and on-site support by TF team.

Additionally, there is a once only administration and visa fee of €50 to pay. This includes the arrangement of a visa for the volunteer stay.
