¡Vente a Chequia a hacer un doctorado en paleoecología!

PhD position in Paleoecology / paleoclimates

Location: Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic
Duration: 4 years starting spring 2020
Application Deadline: the position will remain open until filled

The palaeoecology laboratory at the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Charles University is offering a 4-year Ph.D. position within the framework of a project on temperate mountain forest dynamics. The particular aim of the project is to understand drivers of forest ecosystem change including climate and disturbances. The Ph.D. student will join a team of experienced researchers consisting of palaeoecologists, palaeolimnologists and dendroecologists.

The Ph.D. student will focus on climate reconstruction based on paleoecological and geochemistry data from mountain lakes in Eastern Carpathians. Student will carry on analyses of chironomids and subsequent climatic reconstruction during the Postglacial. It is expected that the student will contribute with analysis and interpretation of biomarkers (δD and br-GDGT) for climate reconstruction. The work will be part of a multi-disciplinary research project and data will contribute to a series of analyses (geochemistry, pollen, beetle remains) that will be statistically analysed and compared to dendroecological data on forest disturbance history. The successful candidate will have an interest in palaeoecology and past environmental and climate change.

Requirements

- a MSc in a relative discipline of natural sciences (preferably biology, environmental science, geography or Earth science)
- highly motivated, creative, precise, independent, reliable and a team player
- knowledge of palaeoecological working methods particularly chironomids is an advantage but not mandatory
