Contrato para trabajar en limnología e instalaciones de mesocosmos

Oferta compartida por Nuria

Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 45,000 students, more than 7,000 employees and a turnover of around SEK 7 billion.

The Department of Ecology and Genetics is an international environment with staff and students from all over the world. Our research spans from evolutionary ecology and genetics to studies of ecosystems. For more information, see www.ieg.uu.se. A position as a research engineer in Limnology/Aquatic Ecology is available at the Erken Laboratory, the field station of the department, see www.ieg.uu.se/erkenlaboratoriet.

The Erken Laboratory is part of SITES (Swedish Infrastructure for Ecosystem Science), which has the aim to provide access to unique infrastructure and support for national as well as international researchers. The Erken Laboratory maintains an extensive long-term monitoring programme of lake Erken, including different sensor systems, and has infrastructure to conduct experiments in the lake in enclosures, or so-called mesocosms. The Erken Laboratory also coordinates the thematic programme SITES AquaNet, and plays a major role in SITES Water. SITES AquaNet is a standardized and harmonized infrastructure for aquatic mesocosm experiments with installations at several SITES stations. SITES AquaNet is a partner in the EU-project AQUACOSM-plus, where one of the main aims is to offer researchers access to leading European mesocosm facilities. SITES Water collects background information on lake climate and biogeochemical processes that can support research projects and document long-term changes. The position will focus on a range of working tasks related to both SITES and AQUACOSM-plus.

Duties
The candidate will conduct and support measurements in the lake and in mesocosms. This includes maintenance of autonomous sensor systems and experimental installations as well as data management (e.g. QA/QC). Another important task is the coordination of a distributed mesocosm experiment which is going to be conducted in 2022 within AQUACOSM-plus at several SITES stations. Administrative tasks such as purchases of equipment, reporting, communication with visiting researchers etc. are also part of the position.

Qualifications required
An Academic degree in ecology, limnology or related disciplines and previous experience with field measurements and/or experiments in aquatic ecosystems are required. The candidate needs to work accurately to meet the high quality standards within SITES. The candidate should be an enthusiastic, independent, practical and well organized person with excellent communication and project management skills. A driving license is required. Candidates must be able to express themselves fluently in spoken as well as written English.

Qualifications desired
A PhD degree within a relevant field, extensive previous experience working with mesocosms, sensors, handling of high-frequency data, and programming skills (e.g. Python, R) are desired qualifications. Specific knowledge of Campbell Scientific data logging systems and basic knowledge of electronic measurement principles would be desirable.
