Postdoc en macroecología de peces de agua dulce

Oferta compartida por Nuria

Postdoctoral research associate in freshwater biodiversity research

Topic: Global macroecology of freshwater fishes
Location: Illinois State University, Normal (IL)
Duration: 12 months (full time), preferred starting date August 2021; possibility of extension (upon performance and available funding). The salary for this position is $45,000 – 48,000 / year based on experience.
Application deadline: June 25th, 2021 (5 pm CST)

Qualifications
A PhD degree in ecology, conservation biology or related fields with a strong background in biodiversity research and data science. Excited about global change ecology and freshwater conservation. Demonstrated proficiency in the compilation and analysis of large ecological datasets in the R statistical environment and GIS. Strong track-record of research publication and communication to diverse audiences.

Context
The laboratory of Dr. Lise Comte (https://about.illinoisstate.edu/lccomte/) in the School of Biological Sciences at Illinois State University is seeking a motivated postdoctoral research associate to examine the spatio-temporal patterns and drivers of freshwater fish diversity across the world. This position is offered as part of a collaboration with the research groups of Dr. Xingli Giam (https://www.giamlab.com/) in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Dr. Julian Olden (https://depts.washington.edu/oldenlab/) in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington, and working with a broader international consortium of scientists with interests in freshwater fish conservation. This collaboration aims to advance our understanding of the current trends in freshwater fish biodiversity in order to better inform global conservation efforts.

Description
The successful candidate will leverage a global database of freshwater fish community time-series (RivFishTIME; Comte et al. 2021 Glob Ecol Biogeogr 30:38-50) to develop and test cutting-edge questions that advance freshwater macroecology. Recent papers that have utilized this dataset include Erős et al. 2020 Ecography 43:1156-1166, and Larsen et al. 2021 Ecol Lett 24:791-801. The dataset will be analyzed to assess temporal trends in freshwater fish species across various regions of the world and to develop indicators of the state of global freshwater fish biodiversity. The methodology will draw upon state-of-the-art time-series analysis, meta-analytical and trait-based approaches, and from recent advances in biodiversity and threat indices. There will be ample opportunities to develop independent lines of inquiry (e.g., trends in taxonomic and functional diversity), mentor undergraduate students, and interact with the other members of the international consortium.
