Introduction

BirdLife International Africa is a Partnership of 22 national conservation organisations and a leader in bird conservation. Our unique local to global approach enables us to deliver high impact and long term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.

BirdLife Dakar office is one of the six regional Secretariats that compose BirdLife International, the global authority on the status of bird species. Based in Dakar, it supports the African Partnership and is present in 22 countries in Africa.

Overall purpose of the internship

The selected intern will work in the Flyways team, providing support a range of tasks with a focus on the implementation of BirdLife GGW plan.

Responsibilities:

1. Review national GGW reports to identify FACI and their work in countries, identify and map SSGs and their activities in countries where we have BirdLife partners
2. Assist partners to identify overlap activities and GGW national Agencies
3. Assist partners to analyse and map stakeholders involved in biodiversity monitoring in their countries
4. Support BirdLife partners in the development of national plan for GGW
5. Assist in BirdLife partners and national GGW discussions and planning meetings
6. Assist with other duties that may be assigned by the Line Manager.

Competencies

Qualifications: Natural science and natural resource management,

• A minimum degree (BSc), in any appropriate discipline related to natural science, natural resource management, project management.
• Proven knowledge in the environmental sector in Africa.
• Knowledge on biodiversity monitoring; field experience in conducting field surveys, data analysis and compilation of scientific reports and GIS/Remote Sensing.

Personal and social skills:
• Fluency in oral and written French and English
• Experience in facilitating meetings and/or workshops
• Good computer skills including the use of internet.
• Experience in the non-profit or international development sector is a plus;
• Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team to meet program needs.


Internship period:
This internship is for a period of 6 months, with possible extension of 6 months, depending on funding. It is anticipated that it will run from October 2021 to March 2022.

Expected stipend: 500 euros per month
