Dos posiciones (postdoc y lab manager) en un proyecto ERC enfocado en Wolbachia, insectos y virus

Oferta compartida por Nuria

The newly-founded Molecular Mechanisms of Symbiosis Lab (echrostek.wixsite.com/website; Institure of Environmental Sciences, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland) is recruiting two members of staff to work on a 5-year ERC Starting Grant, "Mechano-Wolbachia", interested in discovering how the antiviral bacterium works, and all things related to host-microbe biology.
We are a young team, providing an inclusive and supporting environment and a competitive salary (3,500€/month employment costs, taxes apply)

Role 1: Postdoc / Lab Manager
We are looking for a Postdoc/Lab Manager to orgaznie the newly-founded laboratory, help with everyday's operations (including Drosophila, mosquito and cell lines maintenance), train new lab members in basic molecular biology protocols and support them while they are settling in Krakow and the University.
Once the lab is set up, and exciting molecular biology project will be available, aiming at creating genetic tools to modify an unculturable, and otherwise elusive, microbial symbiont of insects.

You are perfect for us if you have:
  • excelent organizational and communication skills,
  • enthusiasm for host-microbe interactions
  • experience with molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extractions, PCR, qPCR, western blot, cloning).
  • challenge-loving nature
Desirable characteristics:
  • experience working with insects and/or cell culture
  • next generation sequencing experience
  • working knowledge of statistics
  • working knowledge of Polish (or experience surviving in Krakow without it)
Role 2: Postdoc
We are looking for a postdoc to discover the molecular mechanisms of Wolbachia-conferred antiviral protection. The project involves characterisation of protection at the level of individual Drosophila tissues and determining the function of Wolbachia genes putatively involved in protection. You will be working closely with a PhD student on discerning the transcriptional profiles of different tissues, cell lines and molecular biology.

You are perfect for us if you have:
  • excelent communication skills
  • enthusiasm for host-microbe interactions
  • experience with molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extractions, PCR, qPCR, western blot, cloning, NGS, fluorescence/confocal or lightseen imaging)
  • good knowledge of statistics
Desirable characteristics
  • previous experience working with insects
  • good knowledge of NGS data analysis pipelines and automated image analysis software (Fiji)
