A full-time assistant professor position with a maximum of 8 years is available in the Macroecology Lab in the Graduate School of Life Sciences at Tohoku University, run by Associate Professor Jamie M. Research Field: Macroecological and biogeographical modeling


Required qualifications:

Applicant must have a doctoral degree in the biological sciences, environmental sciences, or related field (or should provide proof they are expecting to graduate before this position begins).

Applicant should have a strong research record in species distribution / niche modeling or biodiversity modeling, spatial modeling and mapping, and effects of global change on biodiversity, as well as be skilled in R programming and GIS. Interest or research experience in ecosystem functions and services, and in phylogenetics and phylogeography, is preferred but not necessary. Applicant is expected to lecture and develop teaching materials for undergraduate ecology, particularly topics in community ecology, biogeography, and macroecology, so teaching experience is required. Applicant will also collaborate with Assoc. Prof. Jamie M. Kass on cutting-edge macroecology research, as well as assist in supervising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the lab. Lastly, applicant will work in an international environment where both English and Japanese are spoken, and should have interest in collaborating with other departmental faculty.

Working hours: Full-time, expected regular hours of 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Term: Until March 2028. (Possibility of reappointment.)

Location: Macroecology Lab, Aobayama Campus, Graduate School of Life Sciences at Tohoku University

Compensation: Annual salary system (according to the rules of Tohoku University)
