The Department of Evolutionary Biology (University of Biology Building of the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Vienna, Djerassiplatz 1, 1030 Vienna) is advertising the position of an animal keeper. The position is initially limited to 1 year, but a permanent contract is possible.
This is what you do specifically:
Your responsibilities include the breeding, care, supervision, maintenance and colony census of mammals (rodents, tenrecs, opossums, etc.), and assistance in research projects in the field of reproductive biology of the Pavlicev group. In addition, assistance with primates, fish and insects (feeder animals) is expected in the Shared Service Facility Animal Care.
Your area of responsibility includes carrying out measures to maintain animal health and hygiene, observing and checking the animals to record their behavior and state of health, detecting and preventing diseases, procuring, storing, preparing and administering feed, maintaining (cleaning) animal accommodation and enrichment, assisting with veterinary activities, and supervising interns.
This is part of your profile:
- Your training should include completed animal care training (or equivalent) and ideally be accompanied by practical experience.
- You should be fluent in written and spoken English, as we have a high proportion of international employees and students.
- In addition, we expect our new employee to be responsible, accurate, reliable, punctual, a team player, conscientious, have good communication skills and be flexible.
- Use Office (Excel, Word) to keep animal records
