Description
BULLAB at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, invites applications for a postdoctoral data scientist in macroecology and macroevolution. This is a full-time position for a minimum of two years, with the possibility of extension. The role centers on computational research involving large-scale data in comparative ecology, evolutionary biology, and chronobiology—primarily with a focus on avian traits.
Led by Dr. Martin Bulla, BULLAB investigates global patterns and local adaptations in parental care, fear, song, and biological rhythms. The successful candidate will lead data-driven projects with flexibility to align their work with the lab’s focus areas. This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse, collaborative, and internationally connected research team based in one of Europe’s most livable cities.
Responsibilities
- Design, manage, and analyze large-scale ecological and evolutionary datasets
- Lead and co-author peer-reviewed publications
- Collaborate with international research partners and data contributors
- Supervise and co-supervise students
- Possibly develop web tools or applications for data interaction
- Contribute to teaching and workshops as appropriate
Minimum requirements
- PhD in statistics, ecology, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, chronobiology, or related field
- Proficiency in R (preferred) or Python for statistical modeling and data visualization
- Experience managing large databases and coordinating collaborative research
- Proven publication record in relevant scientific domains
- Strong communication skills and motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with AI-assisted data extraction (audio, image, text)
- Background in data mining or meta-analysis
- Web/app development skills for ecological data tools
- Interest in macroevolutionary trends, biological rhythms, and avian ecology

- Monthly gross salary: 60,000 CZK (~$2,750), with publication bonuses
